It is easy to pick up for beginners and there is no limit to the designs you can create with your creativity. Paper quilling is one of the simplest forms of craft to get started with, requiring just a few tools but lots and lots of patience. At The Noteway Art Studio, we provide you with guided paper quilling classes to help you master and fall in love with this craft.

Steps for Paper Quilling

Materials Required for Paper Quilling:

1. Paper Quilling Strips or Coloured Paper

Beginners will find it easy to start with pre-cut pieces of quilling paper. Pre-cut pieces of quilling paper sold in stationery shops is the perfect thickness for curling. Alternatively, you may use A4 size colour paper and cut it into strips of the same width.

2. Liquid Glue

Liquid glue is required to stick the quilling strips to each other, and also to stick them onto the background paper.

3. Slotted Quilling Tool

Slotted quilling tools help to place one end of the paper strip into the slot, while turning it to create a coil. As a result, the coil will be neatly curled with the centre in place.

4. Pencil & Eraser

Pencils and erasers are useful for drawing an outline of your design on the background paper before beginning to quill! Of course, one can quill without drawing with a Pencil, if they have a crystal clear image of their design in their mind.

5. Scissors






Scissors are necessary to cut your paper strips into the desired length.

6. Quilling Board (Optional)







Quilling boards are used to ensure that rolled coils are of a particular size, especially when make coils which require the same size for symmetry

Steps to do Paper Quilling:

Find your inspiration and trace using a pencil

Slide one end the quilling paper into the slotted quilling tool and roll the tool to make basic quilling shapes

Glue the other end of the paper to the coil with as little glue as possible

Glue the quilled coils on the background paper (if any)

    Q. Do I need to bring any items?

    A. Just bring along your spirit to create something you love! We will provide the rest of the paper quilling materials.


    Q. Can I frame my completed work?

    A. Yes, we recommend framing if you intend to display your paper quilling work as a showpiece or wall art. You may purchase frames from us for an additional cost after your paper quilling classes. If you are making paper quilled cards to give to your loved ones or for your scrapbook, they do not need to be framed.


    Q. What is the minimum number of people you need to conduct a session?

    A. There is no minimum. Even if 1 person books a slot, we will organise the paper quilling class 🙂


    Q. Can I hold an paper quilling team bonding event for my company/school?

    A. Yes you surely can. If your company/school is looking to hold a paper quilling bonding event, we can make it special.
